Developing Skills

Provide hands-on activities for practice and mastery. Check for understanding of concepts and skills by using relevant standard materials, i.e. worksheets, text problems, workbooks, teacher prepared exercises, etc.


Guided practice

Objective: The student will experiment and practice various techniques of drawing to convey emotions.

Activity: Guide students through the use of gesture and contour techniques. Have students practice. Demonstrate various mediums, i.e., compressed charcoal, vine charcoal, ebony pencil, pen and ink, brush and ink, ink and wash, etc. Have students experiment with expressing emotion: call out emotions and allowing them to respond visually. Give each student a subject matter/object to illustrate three times. Each illustration should convey a different emotion.

Assessment: Critique.
