Establish a classroom atmosphere that celebrates the sharing of learning. Have opportunity for students to practice new learnings. Make student learning available to the larger community, i.e. books students write are shared with other classes, students report in school paper, student work is displayed at school, etc.

Objective: To design a map and find a treasure.
Activity:
1. Divide students into groups. Each group is to plan a treasure hunt including a treasure, hiding place, and map. When all groups are finished, have them exchange maps and find a treasure.
2. Display island maps and treasure hunt maps.
Evaluation: Participation in activities.
