Provide a metaview, lifting students into a wider view of the concept. Use another medium (not reading or writing) to connect students' personal knowing to the concept (i.e. visual arts, music, movement, metaphor, etc.) Involve learners in reflective production that blends the emotional and the cognitive.
Teach the word “reciprocity”
Objective: To explain the idea of reciprocity and to have the children relie an instance of reciprocity in their lives.
Activity: Teach the word “reciprocity” (to give in return). Next have the children create a two-fold visual of themselves doing something hospitable for someone else and then a picture of them receiving the same. Ask the children to be sure they depict true stories.
Assessment: The meaning of the picture and their understanding of the concept.
