Provide a metaview, lifting students into a wider view of the concept. Use another medium (not reading or writing) to connect students' personal knowing to the concept (i.e. visual arts, music, movement, metaphor, etc.) Involve learners in reflective production that blends the emotional and the cognitive.
Draw pictures for each of the colors of the song.
Objective: To demonstrate their ability to color using different colors.
Activity: Review song I LIKE RED. Brainstorm things that are each of the different colors. Can make a list of the ideas under each of the color names or a splotch of each color. Make a book by cutting out verses of song, glue them on separate blank sheets of paper, and draw pictures using the color on the page. Students design a cover and combine the pages into their personal book of colors.
Assessment: Are the pictures the children's own ideas? Did they complete the book?
