Encourage tinkering with ideas, relationships, connections. Set up situations where students have to find information not readily available in school texts. Provide opportunity for students to design open-ended explorations of the concept. Provide multiple options so students can plan a unique "proof" of learning.
Introduce aural and kinetic methods.
Objective: To introduce aural and kinetic practice methods (aural = listening; kinetic = use of body [tactile])
Activity: Have the children listen to problems and write answers. Have the children use tactile approach to problems, i.e., sandpaper numbers with blindfolds on ñ three dimensional numbers which are combined into problems manipulated also with blindfolds on, etc. Note: Always attempt to use aural and kinetic methods in addition to the visual. Children vary in their preferences for these methods.
