Connecting to the Concept Experientially

Connect students directly to the concept in a personal way. Capture students' attention by initiating a group problem-solving activity before delivery of instruction. Begin with a situation that is familiar to students and builds on what they already know. Construct a learning experience that allows diverse and personal student responses. Facilitate the work of cooperative teams of students.


Pictionary spelling game.

Objective: To involve students in an experience where they need to use context to solve a problem.

Activity: Working in small teams, students make Pictionary cards with their weekly spelling words. Teacher starts Pictionary game with whole class; small teams continue playing each other.

Assessment: Degree of student enjoyment and success.
