Connecting to the Concept Experientially

Connect students directly to the concept in a personal way. Capture students' attention by initiating a group problem-solving activity before delivery of instruction. Begin with a situation that is familiar to students and builds on what they already know. Construct a learning experience that allows diverse and personal student responses. Facilitate the work of cooperative teams of students.


Read story.

Objective: To listen to story and to act out the story.

Activity: Read the story BROWN BEAR, BROWN BEAR, WHAT DO YOU SEE? by Bill Martin, Jr. Let the children act out the story by sequencing the animals. They may want to use the animal noises or talk the way they think the animals did in a quiet voice, a loud voice, a gruff voice, etc.

Assessment: Can the students tell the story back? Can they answer simple questions about the story??
