Objective: To create an awareness of different methods of measurement.
Activity: Read the childrens' book "Counting on Frank" to the class being sure the students have an opportunity to view the pictures.

Objective: To analyze reactions to the book.
Activity: Students write their reactions to the book--the story of the measuring maniac. Share students' reactions.

Objective: To develop the understanding that objects can be measured with different units.
Activity: Give students object to measure by creating their own units of measure (cannot use inches, feet, centimeters, etc.). This activity leads into why we need conversions or transformation of measurements and why we use standard units of measure.
